Vacuum pump: difference between oil type and oil free type

In practical applications, some industries (processes) are suitable for oil free vacuum pumps, while others are more suitable for oil type vacuum pumps. Oil type vacuum pump refers to a vacuum pump that requires oil to lubricate and seal during operation, or uses oil as the working medium. The main characteristics are good sealing performance and high limit vacuum, but oily vacuum pumps can cause certain pollution to the vacuum chamber. Commonly used oil pumps include rotary vane pumps and roots pumps.

An oil free vacuum pump is one that does not use oil as a medium and seal during operation. There is no oil pollution in the vacuum chamber, and a relatively ideal oil free and clean space can be obtained. However, compared to oil type pumps, the vacuum degree is low and the air pumping capacity is small, such as dry screw vacuum pumps, scroll vacuum pumps, piston pumps, claw pumps, etc.
