Cut the sap from these trees to distill and extract the high-viscosity secretion (called GUM THUS). This volatile liquid is rosin; the remaining hard solid resin is called rosin. China has always been the largest country in the manufacture and use of rosin.

Rosin can be harvested directly from pine trees, or pine roots or trunks can be chopped up, and the resin can be extracted with a solvent, and then refined. Rosin is not only an important Chinese medicinal material, its physical properties such as bonding, sealing and other mechanical effects also allow rosin to be widely used in the industrial field. Rosin is often used as a tackifying resin in hot-melt, pressure-sensitive and solvent-based adhesives, which has the effect of increasing initial viscosity and improving bonding strength; rosin and soda ash or caustic soda can be cooked together to form rosin soap, which has great decontamination Rosin is often used as a paper making glue in the paper industry; Rosin is one of the basic raw materials for various paints and coatings; Rosin can enhance the adhesion of ink to paper in printing inks; Rosin is often used as a softening agent in the rubber industry to add Its flexibility.

Rosin harvested directly from pine trees needs to be vacuum distilled to form high-purity rosin. So what process is needed for deep processing of rosin? Today I will mention the vacuum distillation method. At a temperature lower than 260℃, pass superheated steam into the molten liquid rosin, then the rosin with lower volatility will be steamed out, and the rosin with higher purity can be obtained by fractional distillation. In distillation It is necessary to use a vacuum pump system. On the one hand, the vacuum in the system is reduced, so that the rosin can be vaporized at a lower temperature without heating to 300°C, We can save energy. On the other hand, we can provide air extraction to confirm the rosin is quickly extracted and cooled in the fractionating pipe to increase the output. The picture below is a picture of a rosin deep processing plant in Vietnam. The entire system consists of three reactors, a vacuum pump system, a fractionating tube, and a condenser. Two 8m3 reactors, one 4m3 reactor, and the temperature of the reactor is 250°C and the requirement is to get working vacuum within 30 minutes.
