Roots vacuum pump is a kind of rotary variable-volume vacuum pump. It evolved from Roots blower.
According to the different working range of Roots vacuum pump, it can be divided into low vacuum Roots pump with direct air discharge, medium vacuum Roots pump (also known as mechanical booster pump) and high vacuum multi-stage Roots pump.

It is widely used in the production and development of new materials, new technologies and new processes such as vacuum coating, vacuum gold treatment, vacuum heat treatment, vacuum impregnation, vacuum drying, vacuum distillation, vacuum mud drilling, aerospace, polycrystalline furnace and so on.
Roots vacuum pump can not be used alone. It can be used as a vacuum unit with sliding valve vacuum pump, screw vacuum pump, rotary vane vacuum pump, water ring vacuum pump and other front-stage pumps to obtain better vacuum, higher pumping efficiency and lower power consumption.
Roots vacuum pump is insensitive to dust and steam, so it is suitable for suction of gas containing a small amount of dust and more steam.
Roots vacuum pump chamber does not need oil lubrication, so there is no oil vapor pollution to the system. Oil-free vacuum unit composed of screw vacuum pump can be widely used in electronics, medicine, chemical industry, food, coating, metallurgy and other fields.
In order to obtain high pumping rate at low inlet pressure (1-100 pa), a Roots vacuum pump can be used as the first stage pump of another Roots vacuum pump to form a three-stage or four-stage unit. At this time, the pumping speed ratio between Roots vacuum pumps is generally between 2-5.
Usually, the principle of selecting the front stage pump is as follows:
1. Require the pre-vacuum condition for the main pump to work.
2. Under the maximum allowable exhaust pressure of the main pump, the front pump must discharge the maximum amount of gas discharged from the main pump in time, and the pump speed of the front pump must be in accordance with the actual pumping speed of the pump at the actual inlet pressure.
3. The pre-pumping pump which is used as pre-pumping pump should meet the requirements of pre-pumping time and pre-pumping vacuum.
