The common seal forms of Roots blower include packing gland type, expansion ring type, labyrinth type and mechanical seal, etc. the type of seal to be adopted depends mainly on the nature of the gas (whether it is toxic, whether it can contact with lubricating oil, whether it is flammable and explosive, whether it is clean, whether it is valuable, etc.).

When pressing air and other gases, a pair of gland seals are often arranged between each bearing and the cylinder, a total of four groups of such seals are arranged, and a group of oil seals are set at the extended end of the shaft. When oxygen, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and other gases that can not contact with lubricating oil (grease) are pressed, four groups of mechanical seals are set in the through part of the cylinder, so that the lubrication part of bearing and gear is completely isolated from the gas. This configuration can increase the bearing span of the rotor.

When the gas and methane gas are pressed, they are often made into closed bearing boxes and sealed with a group of glands at the through part of the shaft. Mechanical seal can be used if hydrogen is pressed.

Four groups of mechanical seals are used to compress acetylene gas, liquefied petroleum gas and other gases, and the friction surface is cooled by lubricating oil of bearings and gears.

Roots blower commonly used shaft end seal is gland type, back frame type and mechanical seal.

1. Gland type

This is a simple and commonly used sealing form, most of which are used for conveying air. There are four gland type seals in the connecting part of the cylinder. A number of coils of asbestos oil pan are installed in the gland packing box. In order to reduce the axial length, the seal should be close to the bearing. During the operation, the bolts around the gland can be tightened regularly to keep the air from leaking out.

2. Skeleton type

The framework seal is generally a framework rubber oil seal. Each group of seals is composed of two or three J-shaped frame rubber oil seals. Two of them are installed back-to-back on the inner side contacting with the conveying medium, and the other one is installed on the outside, and the middle part can be filled with grease. The seal is assembled in one seal assembly. The structure has good sealing effect and can be used in high speed blower.

3. Mechanical seal

For the blower conveying special medium (such as the conveying medium is inflammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic and harmful), the shaft end sealing structure adopts mechanical seal. Mechanical seal has the advantages of reliable sealing performance, small leakage, long service life, small power loss and no need of regular maintenance. It can meet the requirements of production automation, high temperature, low temperature, high pressure, high vacuum, high speed and various flammable, explosive and corrosive media.

Mechanical seal refers to the device that two sealing elements fit each other on the smooth and flat surface perpendicular to the axis, and make relative rotation to form a sealing device. It is usually composed of static ring, moving ring, spring loading device [including push ring, spring, spring seat, set screw, driving pin, auxiliary sealing ring (dynamic ring seal ring and static ring seal ring)] and other components. The anti rotation pin is fixed on the gland to prevent the static ring from rotating.
