1. Vertical roots vacuum pump: the axes of the two rotors are installed horizontally, but the plane formed by the axes of the two rotors is vertical to the horizontal plane. 2. Horizontal roots vacuum pump: the axis of two rotors is installed horizontally, and the plane formed by the axis of two rotors is in horizontal direction. The air inlet of Roots vacuum pump with this structure is above the pump and the exhaust port is under the pump. The lower exhaust port is generally connected horizontally, so the direction of intake and exhaust is perpendicular to each other. The exhaust port is connected with a tee pipe to open in two directions. One end is connected with the exhaust pipe, and the other end is dead or connected with the bypass valve.

3. Vertical shaft roots vacuum pump: some roots vacuum pumps have two rotor axes installed vertically with the horizontal plane. The assembly clearance of this structure is easy to control, the rotor assembly is convenient, and the floor area is small. However, it is inconvenient to install and disassemble the gear and other transmission mechanisms, and the lubrication device is also more complex.

2. There is a gap between rotors and between rotors and pump cavity wall. The moving parts in pump chamber have no friction and do not need lubrication;

3. The rotor has symmetrical shape, good dynamic balance performance and stable operation. The gear transmission with high precision can reduce the noise during operation and obtain high speed (pumping speed);

4. The working space volume of roots pump is constant in the process of pumping, that is, “no internal compression”, which is different from most variable volume vacuum pumps.

5. Gas discharge: when the top of the rotor turns around the edge of the exhaust port and the closed space is connected with the exhaust side, due to the high gas pressure on the exhaust side, a part of the high-pressure gas will recoil into the closed space, causing the gas pressure in the space to suddenly rise to the exhaust pressure, which is the so-called “external compression process”. When the rotor continues to rotate, the gas is discharged from the pump.
